Alternative To Eggnog; Filipino Avocado Smoothie
By Karena Apollonya Ebora Higgins
Chunky pieces of avocado with milk, sugar and ice, is there any other way to eat it? Apparently there is. When discussing this particular recipe with my Mexican friends, they always seem to get little grossed out at the thought of a candied version of guacamole. Regardless, there are numerous ways to prepare this delicate fruit. I prefer a pureed, slightly sweetened, less rustic interpretation of this chilled concoction. It’s a fresh filling nutritious breakfast or midday snack.
For those of you also looking to drop a few lbs or get a jump on your “lose weight” resolutions, the buttery tasting crop, with its L-Carnitine, actually reduces belly fat and promotes faster metabolism. The vitamin E protects our skin and their phytonutrients help prevent prostate and breast cancer. Last, but not least, especially during this festive season of over indulging and close, cozy conversations, avocados are extremely effective in stopping bad breath. LOL. That’s right, it helps block the funk. So before you or someone you know gulps down a huge glass of thick milky eggnog, which will most likely produce a parched dry mouth, a bloated gut and gas, try a smooth, creamy, luscious alternative.

thanks, abigail! we love us some avocado shakes, too! happy holidays and we love your blog! :)
Awesome! one of my ultimate fav’s especially here in LA during the summer days. It’s crazy when I introduce my non-filipino friends to this drink or just mention it to them…they are so used to the fact that avocados are used for savory dishes and never thought of them to be used as a sweet dessert. I even had a American born Filipino friend who was thrown off by the idea of an avocado shake.
Avocados are commercially valuable and are cultivated in tropical and Mediterranean climates throughout the world. They have a green-skinned, fleshy body that may be pear-shaped, egg-shaped, or spherical. Commercially, it ripens after harvesting. Trees are partially self-pollinating and often are propagated through grafting to maintain a predictable quality and quantity of the fruit.`
